A dose is the quantity of a medication or, more generally, of a drug which is required to elicit the desired response in an individual. Correct dosage does not necessarily exclude the presence or the possible presence of side effects which are undesired responses in an individual. An overdose is a quantity of a medication or, more generally, of a drug well above that required to elicit the desired response in an individual and sufficiently large that the undesired responses suffered by the individual dominate the experience, at the worst resulting in death.
