The Crimson Death Epidemic was a lethal plague that struck Darkon in the autumn of 688 BC and killed an estimated 1 out of every 5 Darkonians. It is thought to have originated in the Boglands, though how it originated is unknown. Though on the decline by the spring of 689 BC, the Crimson Death still remains a threat to adventurers who trespass against the tombs of the sick.[1]
Effects of the Plague
The Crimson Death is a vicious infection that eats away at Strength and Constitution, eventually afflicting its victims with oozing pores, coughs of blood, and bleeding joints and soft tissues. Considering it was spread through exposure to the blood and bodily fluids of the diseased, this made the situation even worse, the disease remaining a threat until said bodily fluids were consumed by fire. In addition, the Crimson Death was especially hard to recover from, relative to other diseases[1].
Victims of the Crimson Death
Among its victims were Geordin and Katalia, of the same family[2], and Helga, the great-aunt of Rudolph van Richten’s whom he tried, but failed, to save.[3]
