Nether bats^[1] are bats that normally phase in and out of the Prime Material Plane and the Ethereal Plane. They are trapped in Ravenloft when they phase into it on the Border Ethereal. Nether bats have a low human intelligence, but they are evil, vicious creatures. A nether bat appears as a normal bat but has a sucker-like mouth with no lower jaw. It attacks with a boney ridge that reaches from its breastbone down the lower side of its body. Note that nether bats were never updated to 3.x Edition, so the creature types assigned below are speculative.
