Notes on Animation
Notes on Animation is a work credited to Creighton Arkwright that addresses one or more problems in the creation of machines with the semblance of autonomous life. In particular it is known to address the matter of powering them. The work is effectively dark desire incarnate. For someone going to the trouble of acquiring the book, for example Howard Lumley who commissioned its theft from Lamordia by the Vistani, the Dark Powers wave the spellcasting requirements of a proper Golem Manual in exchange for the tacit acceptance of both their minute scrutiny and the "boon" of the dread golem template. Proficiency in mechanics is a prerequisite for understanding the work. At least minimal proficiency in the spellcraft skill is also likely a requirement, although even this could and perhaps should be waved. Part of the work's curse is that it survives the completion of the golem and so may contribute to the downfall of more than one party. The Order of the Guardians are aware of the book's existence, having warned Lumley against its use, and would like to, if they haven't already done so, acquire it and put it safely beyond use. More than one copy of the work may exist however.
