Great Hippo

The great hippo, also known as the great hippopotamus, is a possibly extinct species of hippopotamus in the Fallaya Basin. The great hippo is similar to the hippopotamus though much larger and significantly more aggressive. Notably, they also lived solitary lives as opposed to forming herds like the hippopotamus. The great hippos size and temper made it a considerable threat to boats and structures near the water.

Great hippos were always rare, but it has been decades since the body parts of one have been seen in markets. Despite this new rumors of sightings are heard each year. The great hippo’s large size causes it trouble moving around outside of the open water of the rivers and open ground of the surrounding flood plains, and its great appetite restricted its range to areas adjacent to open fields and meadows.

The teeth of great hippos can be worked into flutes that produce sounds of unusual clarity and tone that is said to even be addictive to certain individuals. These flutes are exceedingly rare, and a new one or even a tooth that could be worked into one would fetch a high price.
