Mineralogy is a branch of natural history and in particular is a subbranch of geology which studies the properties of minerals. This study tends to focus on the description of readily observable physical qualities. An alchemical or even chemical approach to mineralogy is also possible and affords it the analytical character of a branch of natural philosophy.
