Burganet was once evil, and tried as he might to stake claim to a piece of Barovia for himself to rule, tempting the dark powers for control. Strahd enjoyed Burganet's show for power, and decided to instead of killing him outright, drive him insane. Burganet was driven to complete insanity and wandered around useless for five years as a fool and madman. He was cured by a young woman he did not know, and his alignment radically shifted.[1]
