Barley denotes both a type of flowering grass and the grain of this plant. Barley is cultivated in area that are too cold or poor for wheat. Its grain and stem are harvested. The grain may be milled into a flour. The grain is used as food, as feed for livestock in particular, and to make beer and whiskey. The dried stem is gathered as Straw.
