The thirst for blood is go great in some vampires that its mere sight can cause them to descend into a feeding frenzy and be compelled to go to the blood's source and sup upon it. This will not motivate the vampire to commit obviously suicidal acts - such as going into sunlight - but it will take great risks, such as attacking a large party of well-armed adventurers.[1][2]
A rare few vampires are aroused by the mere smell of blood and can smell it within 20 ft. If such a vampire can both see and smell blood, it will resort to any action, even suicidal, to get to the blood.[1]
