An evil curse left by Vecna afflicts some wizards who devote themselves too much to the gathering of secrets. The obsession for knowledge is not helped by a transformation into a nothic, and they entirely forget their former identities[1].
History
A small group of wizard in Barovia devolved into nothics in their obsessed quest for forbidden knowledge. They eventually came to the Amber Temple and started lurking there[2].
