Sybil was a fortune teller and one of the Gur, a people from Faerun resembling the Vistani.[1] Like a Vistani woman, Sybil possessed a version of the Sight[2] She could not only read the tarrokka but could also hold ritual to create a visionary experience shared with other people.[3] Although unusually young to lead her family, she nonetheless served as its matriarch.[4]

History

Before the Mists came to the environs surrounding Phlan, Symbil and her family predicted the Mists arrival and attempted to stop it. When it seemed too late, the Raisa family tried to collect resources enabling them to obtain protection, which unfortunately included theft. Whether or not they were successful in this, the Mists took much of the areas close to PHaln and then depositing them into Barovia.[5]

In Barovia, Sybil set up a hidden camp near Orasnou.[6] She served Ivan Randovich for a brief time.[7] Sybil later encountered the Bloodhand Tribe, an orc tribe from Faerun snatched by the Mists from the same area around Phlan. The Bloodhand found her abilities useful enough to take her prisoner, but Gagg Shinbreaker betrayed the clan and took Sybil away to be sacrificed to Gruumsh[8]. Gagg was ultimately thwarted in his scheme.[9]

After escaping the Bloodhand or being let go, Sybil used her tarokka to learn that the activities of Esmae Amarantha were responsible for the Mists coming to Faerun.[10] Sybil participated in a scrying ritual with Jeny Greenteeth and another female arcane spellcaster to divine Esmae's location. Unfortunately, the ritual's power magically aged Sybil's body until she perished.[11]
