Lady Ann-Elizabeth Ward was the wife of Lord Jeremy Barthold and mother of Lady Gowena Ward-Barthold. Though Lord Jeremy was a violent abuser, Ann-Elizabeth had the strength of character to raise Gowena to be independent and strong minded until Ann-Elizabeth died tragically of disease when Gowena was only 10.[1]
