IN 646 BC[1][2], Morgoroth the Black felt the Evil within him awaken after killing the paladin Lambert. He kidnapped Aurora Shadowborn. When the Order of the Circle attempted to intervene, but they were all murdered or disappeared entirely. Following this mass murder, Morgoroth and Tergeron Manor, and the Phantasmal Forest* were taken by the Mists as Avonleigh formed into a domain.[3]
- The 3rd Edition Ravenloft products infer that the Phantasmal Forest already existed in Ravenloft, and that Tergeron Manor simply emerge from within in upon arrival to the Land of Mists.[1][2]
According to the comments left by John W. Mangrum, the Phantasmal Forest exists as a manifestation of Ebonbane's evil[4] as opposed to the origins given in A Light in the Belfry.
