Marcu Vasilis was born in Borca. He became a professional gambler, specialising in cards and exploiting the immense advantage afforded by being able to read the minds of his opponents. Eventually, his use of psionics attracted the attention of the God-Brain. Gradually, over a course of weeks, the God-Brain imposed upon Marcu's existence the horrid reality of Bluetspur, until the poor man was taken bodily into that domain during a lightningstorm which was the physical manifestation of its crushing psionic reality. Whereupon Marcu's brain was extracted and fed to the God-brain. As to the rest of his body, it was re-engineered by the biomancers of that fell realm and the brain of an illithid placed within it This was the birth of an abominable double of Marcu that has been ordered to track down the brain of a companion of the dead man, one Lidia Kurator.
