He was created by the toymaker Guiseppe out of his desire for a son, and Maligno ended up murdering the entire adult population because they would not believe that he was real. The children, who originally loved him and did believe he was real, adored him. Maligno keeps Guiseppe, now driven mad, in an attic in one of the houses, making more toys and carrionettes for Maligno.
