The Familiar is the son of the Crimson Rose of carnival. He was introduced into the skurra at birth.

The Kargatane planned to reveal in Ravenloft Gazetteer Volume XIII that the Familiar's father was the Gentleman Caller. [1]
The potent magic of the skurra face paints, in addition to protecting the boy against the Twisting, also repress the growth of his demonic heritage.
