Prince Romir Hiregaard is the father of Sir Tristen Hiregaard. He is recognised as being a former Prince of Nova Vaasa. He was in fact born in outside the Land of Mists and died before his land was snatched up by the Mists and given a place within their confines. Hence he is Vaasi and not Nova Vaasan.

The curse that now rests on Tristan Hiregaard originates with Romir's sins; believing himself to be a cuckold, Romir was cursed by his wife as he murdered her. Rather than face up to the consequences of his crime, Romir committed suicide in order to escape them. This caused the curse to move on to his firstborn son and eventually the creation of Malken.
