Queen RAvenovia van Roeyen is an NPC from the 5th Edition module Curse of Strahd (or specifically, the background behind it. Queen Ravenovia is the CoS counterpart to the Ravenia van Roeyen of other Ravenloft continuities. As such, she was the mother of Strahd von Zarovich and wife of King Barov von Zarovich.[1]

History

When Ravenovia was giving birth to Strahd, Baba Lysaga served as a midwife. The midwife's attachment to the infant Strahd proved unwholesome and unnatural, and Ravenovia put Lysaga to exile as a result. Lysaga petitioned for Mother Night's vengeance in retaliation, and after countless prayers and sacrifices, Mother Night finally struck down Queen Ravenovia.[2] But before she died, she saw Barov slain on the field of battle and become fearful of the growing darkness within her son. She perished en route to Castle Ravenloft, a trip that had been undertaken at Strahd's behest. Strahd's spirit was hurt by her death.[3]

Barov and Ravenovia were entombed together in the crypts beneath Castle Ravenloft (area K88).[4]

Other information

Strahd named Castle Ravenloft after Ravenovia.[5]
