Serving mostly as guardians, baneguards are evil, intelligent undead resembling skeletons. Baneguards have a couple of unusual spell-like abilities, namely the power to blink as per the spell and fire magic missiles from their hands. The baneguard is a creation of the Faerunian clerics of Bane, though knowledge of creating a baneguard has spread such that clerics following a number of other dark gods have created them.[1][2]

Encountering Baneguards in Ravenloft

Considering Hazlik's connection to Thay, baneguards could be encountered in Hazlan. In the Shadow Rift, baneguards can be encountered in the Darkenheights as part of the saugh.[3]

The faithful servants of the Unbending Lord shall return from the Iron Paradise to assail you, and they shall use their weapons of iron and eldritch power to condemn you to the Hell of Slaves"--Inscription on a Hazlani aerkebiskop's sepulchre.[4]
