~~Famine Spirit~~ is a ~~type~~ of ~~undead~~ ~~detailed in~~ Monster Manual II (3.0). Also known as ravenous ghouls, famine spirits are grotesquely corpulent undead monstrosities whose consumption capability can equal that of equal to a hundred humans per day. Though Medium sized, a famine spirit's jaw can unhinge itself to gobble up disproportionately larger targets and is capable of taking off a head of a living creature with a single bite. However, a famine spirit targets food before other living creatures, going after the latter only if interrupted or if no other food presents itself.

A famine spirit's state is such that it radiates a symbol of pain effect as an aura. Moreover, it can ethereal jaunt a few times per day and constantly sees invisible creatures as per the see invisibility spell.

After we were successful on our hunt of the Glutton of ~~G’Henna~~, our first energies were put to cure poor Nikolas’s hand. But alas, no amount of curing could mend what those terrible jaws had done, and Nikolas’s broken hand was completely lost to him. I pity him but I’m sure his inner strength will help him face this challenge. Then I searched our uncle’s paper on hungry dead. In these notes, I found something ghastly. There was once in Darkon a similar monster to the Glutton, a ghoul of insatiable hunger and terrible powers. The adventurer that told our uncle details on this creature said it was seen eating at least 50 corpses on a deserted battlefield, in less then a day! They engaged it in combat, but some of them were trembling when near the monster, as if it’s hideous presence was causing them pain. But the worse is that one of the fighters got bit in the head, and it was sliced from the man’s body. I shiver just to think of what much worse could have happened to our dear Nikolas.
