In [[643 BC]], an arranged marriage was imposed upon Burton and the [[Burton's bride-to-be\|daughter of a wealthy family]] that had immigrated to [[Mordent]] in the prior decades and that had somewhat tense relations with the Wescotes. On the night of the marriage, the [[Burton's bride-to-be]] was involved in the death of [[Michael Wescote]], Burton's brother. Shortly thereafter, she was chased into a [[bog]] by Burton's hounds.
