They are created when an evil Arak [[hag]] known as a [[fanggen]] consumes 100 levels from Good-aligned creatures. This causes the fanggen&#039;s tree to be destroyed and the fanggen to transform into a braunchen, which resembles a beautiful woman clad in clothes of bark with light hair and pointed ears. Braunchens retain all the memories of their lives as fanggen, but are thoroughly Good-aligned creatures, filled with the need to repent for the evil done by their prior incarnations. Some pursue this role by acting as servants, others become adventurers in order to more directly battle evil.<br /> <br /> Rules for braunchen have only appeared for Advanced Dungeons &amp; Dragons 2nd edition.
