These are most of the original, canon domains from early in the game setting.

'''Forlorn''' is a tiny domain mainly inhabited by [[goblyn| goblyns]], monstrous [[slaves]] created by [[Create Goblyn | dark magic]]. A handful of humans live in the woods and underground, fighting the goblyns. The [[darklord]] is a cursed individual named [[Tristen ApBlanc]], [[vampyre]] by day, [[ghost]] by night, who inhabits a castle caught in [[Temporal Flux | temporal flux]] due to the massive amounts of [[ethereal resonance]] created by the ghosts there. Those who enter [[Castle Tristenoira]] are subject to [[time travel]] to one of three time-lines, each fundamental to the [[creation]] of the [[domain]].

As such, Forlorn maintains no ties with any other domain and none of the other lords or lands pay it any heed.

==Geography==

Forlorn is a hilly, mountainous terrain with wooded lowlands. Mounts Arawn and Mathonwy reside at the center of the domain, Arawn in particular permanently enshrouded in a sickly yellow fog.

Forlorn is almost always overcast, and often raining accompanied by thunder and lightning. In the summer months, the clouds give way to the sun to produce a hot muggy climate, but this doesn't last for long.

Muddy, with bogs and marshes dotting the region.

====Lakes====

The [[Lake of Red Tears]] at the northern part of the domain is the source of the [[Musarde River]], and home to [[Aggie]], an undead sea serpent.

===Landmarks===

Two haunted, mostly abandoned keeps are located at the north and south ends of the domain: [[Castle Tristenoira]] and [[Castle Forfarmax]].

The [[Musarde River]] begins at the northern end of the domain, and [[Kendall Creek]] passes through the southern end.

====Settlements====

There are no permanent settlements in Forlorn proper, but its culture thrives (so to speak) in the hamlet of [[Forfarmax]] which resides in the relative safety on the border of Forlorn, in [[Hazlan]]. (Note the error in the map on this page, placing the village in Kartakass instead. This map predates [[Gazetteer I]], which places it definitively in Hazlan. Gomez, of the MCS says, "the neighbouring village of Forfarmax contained living inhabitants, which ment that the village itself could not possibly be in Forlorn (all the domain's former inhabitants are Goblyns). I therefor put the village in Kartakass.")

The [[darklord]] is the doppelganger [[Sodo]], who is referred to by the human inhabitants as "Flickerflame" because he cannot control his shape-changing powers and is constantly "flickering" in form. Previously an [[island of terror]], Paridon and the domain of [[Timor]] (located within the sewers) form the [[Zherisia]] [[cluster]].<ref name="DoD p. 117-118">[[Domains of Dread]] p. 117-118</ref>

Beyond the [[shapechanger]]s that hide among the populace and the [[marikith]] or other horrors from Timor below, few native inhuman monsters inhabit the [[fog]] covered [[street]]s of Paridon. However, there are all too many [[human]] [[evil]]s here, including [[murderer]]s that walk the streets at night. Prior to its capture by [[the Mists]], Paridon and the surrounding land of Zherisia were located on some unknown world of the [[Prime Material Plane]]. Several [[dread doppelganger]] clans lived hidden among the humans of the city. One particularly sadistic and traitorous doppelganger systematically [[betrayed]] and wiped out all of the elders of his clan, subsequently seizing power. Even prior to the loss of the arable land surrounding the city, the problems of scarcity (particularly food scarcity) ran rampant in Paridon.<ref>[[Realm of Terror]] p. 86 (Black Boxed Set)</ref> In [[740 BC]], the [[Grand Conjunction]] occurred, and Paridon became alone in the mists, the surrounding land outside of the city lost entirely.<ref>[[Ravenloft Campaign Setting: Domains and Denizens]] (Red boxed set) p. 41</ref> Starvation ensued, though the issue was ameliorated somewhat a few years later as people started disappearing from their homes and the population dropped. Throughout this strife, [[Paridoner]]s continued to refer to themselves as Zherisian, as a way to remind themselves from a time outside of the mists. Loosely based on Victorian [[London]]<ref name=HotKp.8>[[Hour of the Knife]] p.8</ref>, [[Paridon]] is a [[domain]] designed around the idea of social decay, one which happens to be infested with [[Dread Doppelganger| dread doppelgangers]]. The [[darklord]] is the doppelganger [[Sodo]], who is referred to by the human inhabitants as "Flickerflame" because he cannot control his shape-changing powers and is constantly "flickering" in form. Previously an [[island of terror]], Paridon and the domain of [[Timor]] (located within the sewers) form the [[Zherisia]] [[cluster]].<ref name="DoD p. 117-118">[[Domains of Dread]] p. 117-118</ref>

Beyond the [[shapechanger]]s that hide among the populace and the [[marikith]] or other horrors from Timor below, few native inhuman monsters inhabit the [[fog]] covered [[street]]s of Paridon. However, there are all too many [[human]] [[evil]]s here, including [[murderer]]s that walk the streets at night. The most [[infamous]] of these [[madmen]] is [[Bloody Jack]], a [[serial killer]] who takes six lives without fail every 13 years.<ref name="DoD p. 117-118">[[Domains of Dread]] p. 117-118</ref> Most recently, he struck in [[755 BC]].<ref name="RLCS p.17">[[Ravenloft Third Edition]] p.17</ref><ref name="RLPHB p.19">[[Ravenloft Player's Handbook]] p.19</ref> On a more mundane but widespread level, [[Paridoner]] society is also afflicted by the social ills of mass hunger and a stiff class divide.<ref name="DoD p. 117-118">[[Domains of Dread]] p. 117-118</ref>

Prior to its capture by [[the Mists]], Paridon and the surrounding land of Zherisia were located on some unknown world of the [[Prime Material Plane]]. Several [[dread doppelganger]] clans lived hidden among the humans of the city. One particularly sadistic and traitorous doppelganger systematically [[betrayed]] and wiped out all of the elders of his clan, subsequently seizing power. Even prior to the loss of the arable land surrounding the city, the problems of scarcity (particularly food scarcity) ran rampant in Paridon.<ref>[[Realm of Terror]] p. 86 (Black Boxed Set)</ref> In [[740 BC]], the [[Grand Conjunction]] occurred, and Paridon became alone in the mists, the surrounding land outside of the city lost entirely.<ref>[[Ravenloft Campaign Setting: Domains and Denizens]] (Red boxed set) p. 41</ref> Starvation ensued, though the issue was ameliorated somewhat a few years later as people started disappearing from their homes and the population dropped. Throughout this strife, [[Paridoner]] continued to refer to themselves as Zherisian, as a way to remind themselves from a time outside of the mists. Loosely based on Victorian [[London]]<ref name=HotKp.8>[[Hour of the Knife]] p.8</ref>, [[Paridon]] is a [[domain]] designed around the idea of social decay, one which happens to be infested with [[Dread Doppelganger| dread doppelgangers]]. The [[darklord]] is the doppelganger [[Sodo]], who is referred to by the human inhabitants as "Flickerflame" because he cannot control his shape-changing powers and is constantly "flickering" in form. Previously an [[island of terror]], Paridon and the domain of [[Timor]] (located within the sewers) form the [[Zherisia]] [[cluster]].<ref name="DoD p. 117-118">[[Domains of Dread]] p. 117-118</ref>

Beyond the [[shapechanger]]s that hide among the populace and the [[marikith]] or other horrors from Timor below, few native inhuman monsters inhabit the [[fog]] covered [[street]]s of Paridon. However, there are all too many [[human]] [[evil]]s here, including [[murderer]]s that walk the streets at night. The most [[infamous]] of these [[madmen]] is [[Bloody Jack]], a [[serial killer]] who takes six lives without fail every 13 years.<ref name="DoD p. 117-118">[[Domains of Dread]] p. 117-118</ref> Most recently, he struck in [[755 BC]].<ref name="RLCS p.17">[[Ravenloft Third Edition]] p.17</ref><ref name="RLPHB p.19">[[Ravenloft Player's Handbook]] p.19</ref> On a more mundane but widespread level, [[Paridoner]] society is also afflicted by the social ills of mass hunger and a stiff class divide.<ref name="DoD p. 117-118">[[Domains of Dread]] p. 117-118</ref>

Prior to its capture by [[the Mists]], Paridon and the surrounding land of Zherisia were located on some unknown world of the [[Prime Material Plane]]. Several [[dread doppelganger]] clans lived hidden among the humans of the city. One particularly sadistic and traitorous doppelganger systematically [[betrayed]] and wiped out all of the elders of his clan, subsequently seizing power. When his treachery became great enough, the Dark Powers drew in Paridon and some of the nearby land.<ref>[[Hour of the Knife]] p. 38; Domains of Dread p. 118</ref> The year was [[551 BC]].<ref name="DoD p.16">[[Domains of Dread]] p.16</ref><ref name="RLCS p.17">[[Ravenloft Third Edition]] p.17</ref><ref name="RLPHB p.19">[[Ravenloft Player's Handbook]] p.19</ref>

Even prior to the loss of the arable land surrounding the city, the problems of scarcity (particularly food scarcity) ran rampant in Paridon.<ref>[[Realm of Terror]] p. 86 (Black Boxed Set)</ref> In [[740 BC]], the [[Grand Conjunction]] occurred, and Paridon became alone in the mists, the surrounding land outside of the city lost entirely.<ref>[[Ravenloft Campaign Setting: Domains and Denizens]] (Red boxed set) p. 41</ref> Starvation ensued, though the issue was ameliorated somewhat a few years later as people started disappearing from their homes and the population dropped. Throughout this strife, [[Paridoners]] continued to refer to themselves as Zherisian, as a way to remind themselves from a time outside of the mists.
