Orașnou is a [[village]] located in [[Barovia]], sitting in the foothills at the base of the [[Balinok Mountains]] with the [[Svalich Woods]] to the south. The farmers managed to produce a significant amount of [[crop]]s despite the infertile soil and bleak landscape.<ref>[[The Executioner]] p. 10</ref> A series of events has led to the wiping out or disappearance of most of Orașnou's food stockpiles<ref>[[The Tempter]] p. 7-8</ref> while the village undergoes a particularly cruel winter.<ref>The Tempter p. 21</ref>

The situation in Orașnou has been complicated by the activities and deaths of the village's [[burgomaster]] and [[Ruling Council of Orașnou|ruling council]] members Eugen Adi and Glovia Falinescu. Until recently, Orașnou suffered under the heel of [[Burgomaster Ivan Randovich]], [[tyrant]] whose rule inspired dread and despair in the villagers of Orașnou.<ref>[[The Beast]] p. 7</ref> He unjustly confiscated personal goods from villagers and skimmed the taxes he collected- all the while protected by Strahd's favor.<ref>[[The Executioner]] p. 21</ref> [[Eugen Adi]], one of Ivan's [[tax collector]]s, ravaged Orașnou's [[livestock]] before his unnatural hunger led him on a [[murder]] spree gobbling up people.<ref>[[The Broken One]]</ref> Glovia Falinescu, village [[healer]] and provider of [[food]] to the needy<ref>The Beast p. 10-11</ref>, had more limited schemes, but the [[undead]] she created to achieve her ends caused sorrow and death.<ref>as shown by the killings wrought by the [[wight]] [[Laszlo Vaduva]] and his undead servants in [[the Executioner]] and [[the Marionette]]</ref> All of the above persons were eliminated by [[adventurer]]s while in the pursuit of [[evil]] schemes, leaving [[Scartia Krutz]] to handle the tasks of running the town and ensuring Strahd's taxes are paid. These are tasks Krutz, normally a mere tax collector and [[investigator]], struggles to fulfill.<ref>[[The Darklord]] p. 11</ref> Moreover, the death of Burgomaster Ivan- although a dreaded [[tyrant]]- leaves the villagers with a new source of dread- the uncertainty of what will happen next without his guiding hand.<ref>[[The Artifact]] p. 21</ref>

Prior to his death, the burgomaster controlled the sale of many goods and charged lavishly for them.<ref>The Broken One p. 9</ref> That being said, there are several shops and services available in Orașnou:

No one bearing the exact name of Donavich appears in this I6 Reboot. However, a rather corrupt priest with the quite similar name [[Danovich]] shows up as a secondary antagonist. Danovich is a formerly [[good]] and pure fighter of evil that was [[corrupted]] by using [[Liber Blaspheme's Fragment (Necromancer's Fragment)|fragment of the Liber Blaspheme]] to reanimate his dead son [[Doru (Expedition to Castle Ravenloft)]]<ref>[[Expedition to Castle Ravenloft]] p. 27-28</ref>

==In [[Curse of Strahd]]==
In the [[5th Edition]] remake and reinterpretation of the class Ravenloft module, Donavich has been driven to the brink of [[madness]] by the [[murder]] and [[reanimation]] of his son as a [[vampire spawn]]. Strahd sent Doru back to [[the Village of Barovia]] to taunt and gaslight Donavich in an effort to crumple the priest's sanity and put an end to his church. In [[5th Edition]], Donavich is represented by the [[Acolyte NPC Archetype]] with a [[Lawful Good]] [[Alignment]].<ref>[[Curse of Strahd]] p. 46-47</ref>

Donavich is a [[potential Enemy of Strahd]] as revealed by [[Madame Eva]]'s reading of the [[Fortunes of Ravenloft]]. If this is the case, Donavich will not help the player characters until vampire spawn Doru has been destroyed and [[buried]].<ref>CoS p. 15</ref>
