Funky map error in Gaz 2?

While checking the map in every detail for a pet project, I noticed the Darkon map shows "Mountains of Madness" instead of "Mountains of Misery".
There was a cartographer who was thinking too much about Lovecraft?

Well, we all know that misery some times might lead to madness!

Actually, that error originated with me -- I accidentally wrote Madness instead of Misery on the sketch map I submitted, and no one after me caught the error. (It certainly wasn't the cartographer's job to doublecheck.)

*lol* Funny mistake, had read too many Lovecraft book just days before?
But now that the Mountains of Madness are set in Darkon, how can we say that lovecraftian myths do not mix well with RL?
I'll add this to the errata list.

From the What would you change? thread

Post subject: Lyssa von Zarovich, the Moutains of Misery
Lyssa von Zarovich acquiring power by having a ghost age her is just wrong.
The Mountains of Misery should have been called the Mountains of Madness, in a tribute to Lovecraft, and been home not to Ebb, who is cool but was just fine shacked up with Azalin, but rather abberations.

Post subject: perhaps not a drawven realm but . . .
Perhaps the Mountains of Misery have an older and carefully forgotten name, the Mountains of Madness. Run Lovecraft's famous horror story of the same name in terms of a rescue party sent after dwarven miners who had set off to stake their claim but instead discovered primoridal and alien ruins haunted by horrors even worse than those depicted by the monsterous, weathered, ageless mosaics. A human variation would involve an expedition led by the old professor, from the former university of Il Aluk, who had the run in with the goblyns while studying Forlorn's flora.

Good memory, cure! I didn't remember these topics being already discussed.

And if I may ask, why do the details shown on Gaz domain maps vary wildly? In Gaz 1 for ex, the Barovia map shows nearly everythingdiscussed in the text, but the Kartakass or Hazlan maps shows very few in comparison?

This was a question I had to make too.
While in the first two Gazetteers the maps are, generally, more detailed (Barovia and Darkon, mainly), from Gaz III on we have merely a "zoom" on the basic map. In the Gaz IV the maps are mostly unintelligible (white on light grey?

), not to mention the wonderful map of the Shadow Rift in Gaz V...

More detailed maps mean the chapter's author sent the developers a map. If it's just a reprint, that means the author didn't.
Specific examples:
Early on, I didn't submit a Kartakass map because there wasn't much to label anyway and I assumed the developers would fill in forest names from my text anyway. Darkon's map is detailed because I learned my lesson after that. Borca didn't have a map because I didn't have the time or energy.

lol at the Shadow Rift map.
It reminds me of the Spellfire card that was just a black card named "Naked Paladin in Barovia at Midnight".
Another question - one that is only related to GazII and does not deserve its own thread:
Is there a 3.5 sourcebook that details Shadow Dragons? Or is Ebb a direct port from 2nd ed?

3E stats for Shadow Dragons are in Draconomicon & Monsters of Faerun.

Thank you John. I'm asking because I'm working on something to accompany these domains without a detailed map.

Monsters of Faerun, eh? That's intriguing - given that in 2nd ed. the shadow dragons were allegedly one of the
Greyhawk races of dragons.
Looks like the Forgotten Realms munchkins bailiffs have stopped by to confiscate yet another campaign setting's goods.

Well, if memory serves, the most famous shadow dragon in DnD literature was Shimmergloom, who battled Drizzt Do'Urden in Mithril Hall (although I haven't personally read that one of Salvatore's novels, so someone do correct me if my info is wrong).
