Horrours of the Depths

Hey folks,

Just was realizing today that my personal library is woefully low on fictional "scary sea stories" of the fictional type (I have plenty of books on "non-fiction" ghost sightings like the Mary Celeste and the like). I'm talking about books that concern seaweed-coated beings that rise from the depths or lighthouses that peek into the other worlds or other good tales like that.

So, being the Fraternity are a fairly diverse group in their reading habits, I'm hoping there might be some good recommendations out there if anyone is up to sharing them.

(And to head off the inevitable: yes, I have the novelization of "The Fog" - signed by John Carpenter and the cast no less - as well as the recent graphic novel of it and on the "less fantastic end", "Jaws", "The Beast", etc. are also represented).

Oh, and one other thing - first person who recommends "Dead Man's Chest" gets to walk the plank ;) (it seems silly of me to give my "critique" of the movie this far after its' released but let's just say I'm one of the people on the "Eh"-side of its' reviews).

Three words: William Hope Hodgson.

I particularly recommend the stories "The Voice in the Night" and "The Derelict", which might be available online as etexts.
