Welcome to New Ravenloft, where the old rules don't always apply.
I only skimmed this at the game store, but I expect my completionist insanity will make me pick it up eventually. Much like Die Vecna Die, I expect the Ravenloft parts will be cursory at best. But, it's at least nice not to be forgotten. Did they actually reference Tovag? I'm kind of shocked, if so.

Kas was the real Kas? I always thought Kas was a fake copy of Kas that they put there to troll Vecna.

To be honest, I thought the way they approached Ravenloft was disappointing, as they apparently took into account Barovia as per Curse of Strahd, and not the setting as a whole.
My particular view of Kas is that he ended up being destroyed by Vecna in "Die, Vecna, Die!".
Among other problems that I particularly thought the adventure had, I ended up releasing a Companion on the DMs Guild, reformulating the plot and presenting suggestions regarding the settings and NPCs involved.

I don't like the new 5e trend for the Dark Powers. I found that the most unappealing part of Curse of Strahd.

If it hasn't been too long, I must say that
Hour of the Raven and
Mr. Welch both made good proposals on how to use the WotC ideas to far better effect.
