Yeah, that one would be tough. Unless the stats turn out to be something we can convert to a Broken One-type, we might have to give dragonborn a miss.

Yeah, there's no rule that says that every PHB race must exist in Ravenloft, nor should there be. Still, as far as the Dragonborn = Caliban argument goes, from what I've heard of Dragonborn so far, it seems like a good possibility. Of course, we won't know for certain til seven months from now. But from what I've heard so far, Dragonborn may have different abilities based on their color, and may be able to choose talents later on that give them other abilities (like wings). That kind of variety would certainly be good for the Caliban. You could have a demonic looking Caliban who breathes fire, a catlike Caliban with sharp claws, and a batlike Caliban with bat wings. Great sense for a Caliban, and they're all abilities that'll likely become available to a Dragonborn PC. Who knows what they'll do with it in the end, but the Dragonborn so far appears to be rife with possibilities when it comes to adapting it to a Caliban.

Remember, we don't know if these "dragonborn" are the same thing as the ones from 3E. They could just be regular lizardfolk, but with a more impressive name.

More likely they're spinning off the 3E kobold idea of a lesser race with ties to dragons. Since there's no martial race really in the PHB they'd be likely militaristic of physically impressive.

Well, if that's the case, then that's gonna be a pretty huge let-down. But seriously, I doubt they're planning on grossly mislabelling Lizardfolk like that. Just a guess, but if it's called Dragonborn, then it's gonna be a draconic race, and not just Lizardfolk with a different label. Especially since Bahamut is being made an important part of the core pantheon. Guess they decided to throw in some of his worshippers.

Dragonborn could also be another twist on Dragonlance's Draconians, change their racial history a bit and set them in a domain like Falkonvia where the dark lord has strong ties with the Dragonlance setting and a dragon motif, the Dragonborn ends up being another type of supersoldier. All Drakov requires is a cleric of a certain nine-headed dragon goddess and some dragon eggs (possibly the ones in Darkon that the shadow dragons have just produced, referenced in Gazetteer 2) and ya got yourself a adventure hook that involves intrigue, two angry shadow dragons, Kargat agents, dwarves of the mountains of misery, and explaination on their introduction to the Dread Realms.

I thought the recipe for draconians was A) dragon eggs, B) high-level evil dragon, C) cleric of Takhisis, D) black-robed wizard of high sorcery. At least two of those commodities are a tad hard to get in the demiplane of dread.

well, the recipe will not be perfect because dragonborn and draconians will most likely not have the same racial abilities.

Proto-draconicans are the first attempts to create draconians. Including the traag (precursors to the Baaz) and sesk (precursors to sivaks) draconians. Viewed as failures they were dumped by their creators on the continent of Taladas. Vlad Drakov is from Taladas.

a black-robed wizard of high sorcery or a cleric of Takhisis is easily traded for a sithician elven or half-elven wizard or elven cleric of the nine headed dragon goddess, which most likely will be a slave (half-elven).
Or ya just need a outlander wizard/cleric from the second War of the Lance or during the times of the first attempts at draconian creation (which sounds more plausible).

The high level dragon isn't required, just the spittle from a chromatic dragon (a spell component) which might be located in Hazlan or Darkon.
