EvilInventor: At the moment I'm working on a team designated to research strange quarks and charm spin. I'm on the theory side of things, which means I have to finish all my planning before the researchers get time on the accelerator to test it.

HMB: Is it high pressure work?

EI: Not really. I mean, if I mess up then they'll call me back and we'll think up a new model but it's mainly exploratory.

HMB: So are there any industry applications for this?

EI: Not sure. Actually that's a damn good question. I'm fairly sure we'll get to find out more about the building blocks of the Universe.

EI: But apart from that, the actual day to day uses of this is questionable.

(Embarrassed pause.)

The only problem with the poll is that it's not really an age demographic, but an education one. I work with lots of people who've never gotten university degrees, and they're around my age (41).

Two months after turning 37, here. I did manage to finish a Ph.D. (with a dissertation on rotifers no less ), but it took me six years of fiddling around to do it.

Of course, given that I went straight from taking college biology to teaching it, you could say that I've never really been out of school since I was four.

We're a pretty ancient bunch, as gamers go, aren't we?

Agree. I'm 26 with no university degree. Or does acting academy count?

I had to cope with problems like:

Me (11-year-old, visiting a book store with my parents):
"Momma, Momma, I want this book here!"

Momma: "Let's see... The cursed knight who has slain his wife and child is banned to a nightmarish domain where he fights vampires, undead wizards and the ghost of a former lover... NO WAY!"

Me: Waaah!

(Bought Dragons of Autumn Twilight on that day, so it wasn't too bad in the end... )
