Well, if the site doesn't bother to check if it's pirated, I can't say I will. What are the HBO affiliates? Perhaps they put it on at other sites.

wow nice catch there Gonzoron. Anyways it sounds like a clever work around for pirating. I'm out of luck until next wednesday when i move back into my condo anyways. (they are currently ripping it apart and putting it back together because of mold. Ravenloft's comin to get me! I just know it!)

Guess we'll see around that time. Any idea when the third season comes out then? o.O' also the books aren't done are they i think from what my mother said after readin the 5th was it?

the affiliates are listed on that wiki page. there's a different one in each country.

Season 3 should start around April 2013. The 5th book was released last summer. 7 are planned, but after being 6 years late on #5, the author has declined to give an expected date for Book 6, though he claims he is working on it.

Why does that remind me of Eragon? <.<'

Anyways, well hopefully he's doing well. I know as a "RPer"/"Writer" (not professionally of course though would like to be) that beginnings are easy. Endings while easy to see how you want it to end.... isn't always as easy when your halfway through. You often don't know how you get from start to finish, and that's half the journey for the writer. :D

I was wondering because the Serise might catch up with the books at this rate no?

Yeah, it's possible, but next season is only going to cover half of book 3, and books 4 and 5 are of comparable length. So he's probably got 6 years or so to finish book 6, and then another 2 years to finish the last one. Assuming the show runs for that long, which would be unusual...

So you think it might die out? That'd be unforunate. :(

It's hard to guess. Right now it's a huge money-maker for HBO. Will it continue to be so if it runs for over 10 years? As soon as it's not making people sign up and get subscriptions, it'll be axed. At the current rate of production, I don't think they can cover the 7 books in less than 10 years, unless they cut out huge sections.

The Sopranos ran for 6 years on HBO. Larry Sanders also 6. Entourage ran for 8. (all on HBO). 10 is a long time. I do have faith that GRRM will finish the books before he dies, and even before HBO needs more storyline. I don't have as much faith that the show will last longer than nearly any other show on the network, and longer than most genre shows on any network. (Buffy - 7, Angel - 5, ST:TNG,DS9,VOY - 7 each. ST:ENT - 4, BSG - 4, X-Files - 9, Lost - 6, Babylon 5 - 5) The only Sci-fi/fantasy/horror shows I can think of that lasted 10 seasons or more are Stargate SG-1 and Dr. Who.

Granted, with only 10 episodes per season, GoT would have far fewer episodes in those 10 years, but it's still 10 years of real time for the audience and the actors to stick with it. I'd love to see it happen, but I don't have confidence that it will.

Was Stargate SG-1 HBO? I always watched it on Sci-fi.... ugh i now remember they changed the symbol and spelling? Syfy. I yearn for the old days... (i'm only 21! damnit i'm not supposed to remember anything foundly yet xD)

Well i hope they go on for a few more seasons at least then.

Nope, I was just listing genre shows from any network for comparison. SG-1 started on Showtime and then moved to sci-fi. (I refuse to use the new spelling. :) )

Yeah Stargate SG-1 I still have the movie or rather my grandpa does and i think it lasted 11 seasons.... and i've still not seen all the episodes. One day.... :D Anyways back on topic.

Cross your fingers, thus far it's been pretty good

Really? Why?
How long is between the end of book 2 and the end of 5? If your prediction of 1/2 a book per year is correct, then we need 6 years to the end of book 5.
If it's 1-2 years "in book" time, then some characters will be overly aged in 6 years. For adults it could be passable, but for the kids?

Well, you've seen yourself how much gets cut from the first 2 books to fit into a season each. Book 3 is 200 pages longer than book 2. (book 4 is actually similar to book 2's size, but book 5 is the almost exactly the same size as book 3)

This was something GRRM, the producers, and many fans were pushing for, and eventually HBO agreed. I think it's a good idea. The first 5 books cover about 3 years in Westeros/Essos. Yes, the kids will grow up more in the show than in the book, but that's probably OK. There's nothing inherent to their exact ages in their stories that hasn't already been an issue glossed over.

The only one I can think of is:
VIEW CONTENT:
Sansa hitting puberty at 16 in the show, which was obviously late, but in the book, she was 12.
Book 4 and 5 will likely have other issues because: (minor book timeline spoiler)
VIEW CONTENT:
The first 2/3 of book 5 happens at the same time as all of Book 4. So they will probably interweave them into 2-4 seasons.

That will be interesting. If they use different parts of different books into a season though curiously once i watch and then go read the books i'll probably be slightly confused at some things that happened but that's half the fun :D

Edit: Does that need a spoiler tag?

Yeah, I think that putting parts that happened around the same time at the same season seems reasonable.

Also,
VIEW CONTENT:
Sansa was 14 I think in the show when she hit puberty while she was 12 or 13 in the book IIRC.
Arya when she cuts the throat of one of her brother's soldiers in cold blood is about 9 years old I think. I desperatedly want to see what happens in the later books with that, if she feels guilt and how she rationalize it. That was the epitome of book 2 for me and it wasn't in the show at all.
Even Robert's bastard who is older seems freaked out in the book that she slit the throat of a man. I wonder what Robb would say about that too, if he finds out that Arya was killing his soldiers, although I doupt it

Ah, I don't even know what goes in a spoiler box and what doesn't anymore in this thread. :)

I've been trying to keep anything from the books that hasn't been shown yet in the show to spoiler boxes, that's all. I know on other boards, the non-book-reading show-watchers have been very spoiler-phobic. (not that I blame them.) I don't know if anyone's actually reading this thread other than the 3 of us. :)

Yeah, I don't know if Sansa's age was ever said outright on the show, but the actress is 16 (probably 15 when she filmed the scene in question.)

As for Arya, yeah, I know you were disappointed that they cut her 2nd kill, but even if they hadn't, is it any less horrifying and character-defining if she's 11 or 12 instead of 9? Basically, my point is, they've already aged up all the kids by 3-5 years, and most of the child actors are still even a few years older than their characters. In some cases, this made things less creepy (Dany & Drogo is better if she's 18 (played by 23) and not 14). In some cases more creepy (Robin Arryn nursing at 10 is even worse than at 6). But by and large, kids are kids, teens are teens, and adults are adults, and behavior counts more than raw numbers of years. If the actors get even old because the show lasts a long time, well... the horse is already out of the barn.
