Hheheheheh, glad to be of service.

When you write the article, make sure to give a shout out to Rafael. :azalin: Tindertwig's name, background, etc. was created by me, but the basic idea of a pyromaniac treant comes straight from Raf.

I'm pleased to see your progress with the project.

Me too, now that I am done with College and have nothing to do right now but send out endless job applications leaves me time to finally work on this.

I am getting ahead of myself here, but I think eventually doing Paraelemental Domains would be cool too. I took these from the old Ravenloft Cosmology thread.

earth + positive = Mineral <> grave + positive = maggots
air + positive = lightning <> mist + positive = thunder
fire + positive = radience <> pyre + positive = glare
water + positive = steam <> blood + positive = Toxin

grave + negative = dust <> grave + negative = bone
air + negative = vacuum <> mist + negative = noxious fumes
fire + negative = ash <> pyre + negative = cinder
water + negative = salt <> blood + negative = scab

Domains
Maggots: A series of tunnels with the walls resembling maggots and worms. Maggots and worms would occasionally drop down on whoever is traveling the corridors. Beetles can sometimes be seen skittering across the ground.
Thunder: A realm that can be found in the skies of Ravenloft whenever a intense thunderstorm is occurring. This domain is similar to the Elemental Plane of Air in that characters can freely fly about, but it can be difficult due to the constant rain obscuring vision.
Glare (I may change the name of this one): ???
Toxin: ???
Bone: The entire domain is actually the bones of some giant creature. There are lesser skeletal undead that stalk along the bones of this creature and attack any who enter the domain.
Noxious Fumes: ???
Cinder: ???
Scab (I may change the name of this one): ???

Darklords
Maggots: A Worm that Walks who looks like an ordinary person at first, but has colonies of maggots living in him. His curse is that anytime the maggots try to surface, they cause him excruciating pain. Not sure what he did to earn this curse yet.
Thunder: ???
Glare: ???
Toxin: ???
Bone: The Domain is the Darklord. The entire domain is some sort of trapped giant undead creature.
Noxious Fumes: ???
Cinder: ???
Scab: ???

Anyways, this would be a ways off as I want to finish the six main elements first. I also know that these are strongly on the Fantasy side of things.

Toxins might be a better term than acid.

This entire post actually cast my mid back 33 years to a cartoon I saw when I was eight. It's actually very crude by today's standards like all hanna-barbara cartoons, and Godzilla purists should definitely take it with a whole SHAKER of salt, but I think certain basic concepts you were trying to put forward can be seen in it. you might want to give it a look.

Well, 'Bone' could be a creature buried inside Graves, a pocket domain.

Maggots and scab don't sound promising domains to me, but you may be able to do something cool with them. Gross-out horror is not very scary, most of the time, IMO. I do like the idea of a Worm that Walks, though.

Cinder? So, an ash-heap? Maybe it could be a region of deep ashes and burnt out ruins? As always, we've got to think about the darklord and his curse. This domain may be accessible from Pyre.

Noxious fumes? What about an underground cavern-realm? The depths of the titanic cavern are filled with heavier than air, invisible, deadly gas. Gigantic speleothems hang from the ceiling or rise from the floor. These stone formations are habitable spaces; houses have been built in/on some of them. The natives may have developed some kind of man-portable breathing gear (alchemical, no doubt) for going down into the danger zone.
There could be resources down there. Monsters, too, something immune to the gas.

I have no idea about the darklord. Dwarves might be nice as inhabitants. Gnomes? Both?

EDIT- Maybe the darklord earned his domain by some action that involved weaponized posion gas? This could be very nasty.

Alternative Thunder: a region of fertile plains/praries and small farming and market towns, prone to violent electrical storms. The wealthier folk place intricately made wrought iron lightning rods atop their homes. Reinforce the theme of thunder in other ways: the thundering hooves of herds or riders, thundering cannon used in battle, a leader with a stentorian voice, the clamour of smithies, loud church bells (fits with cannon), groves of oak trees (associated with thunder and lightning), meteorities of 'cold iron' (thunderstones), and so on. The people may admire loud, brash, violent heroes.

More work will require a darklord concept, of course!

This could be joined with your Thunder concept. Maybe it's possible for a thunderstorm to be a transit point from other domains to the Plains of Thunder (not the actual name, just filler). The Mists can manifest in ways other than just fog, as we have seen in the Amber Wastes.

Nice ideas, I will definitely come back to them once I get around to working on those domains.

Still typing away on Pyre.

Cool beans. I'm working on a thesis, probably all summer long. :azalin: I do have some time to give ideas and input on this elemental stuff. I might even write up a domain or two, with your permission.

Well, I want to do the six main elements and maggots, glare, bone, and thunder, but everything else is free game.

For Glare, I want to invoke a strong sense of http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/M ... ightHorror

Sorry, I can not get the URL to embed in the text, but that is the trope I want to set the mood with. :azalin:

Ah, well it does leave noxious fumes. Hmmm...I have some substnace with that one. You think it's a good start?

If you don't use the 'Plains' model for Thunder, I could develop that as a seperate, 'non elemental' domain. Your more purely elemental, aerial Thunder domain could manifest over the plains-country fairly often, given your original description.

I may use your idea for Thunder, but perhaps the Darklord lives above the domain in the storm clouds.

Your ideas for Fumes sound good. So, I would go with it if I were you.

Daylight horror, nice.

There is already a fan created realm of eternal day, BTW.

Maybe you should make a realm in which the humans (hobbits?) can only safely come out at night? They do not have darkvision or low light vision. They have to use torches or lanterns. Something terrible moves about in the daylight hours.

Workable?
