Appearance

Ludovigo is a man in his early 50s. His face is a series of hard lines, and equally hard blue eyes. He exudes an aura of confidence, and is very charismatic. While his normal gaze is cold, he gains an unsettling, steely stare when confronting suspects and disbelievers. Ludovigo dresses in a white cloak and white clothing, with belt and boots of a pale yellow. He typically wears a chain mail shirt under his normal clothing and carries a bright silver mace +2.

Background

Ludovigo was a follower of a religious sect on a prime world. He was appointed by the high priest to root out evil among the followers and non followers alike, for the good of all. Ludovigo embraced his role, seeing himself as a protector of the innocent, and enemy to all that was evil and corrupt. He led a group of people called the Seekers, for they were to seek out evil in whatever dark corner they hid.

For years, he protected his people from those who would do them harm, whether directly, or from the machinations of those serving evil. But his power slowly corrupted him, and he began to see evil where there was none. His path took him from punishing those of true evil, to punishing any thief, then to mages, then to any who may hold something hidden, whether it be an assassination attempt or a secret lover. He had them tortured, burned, or killed. He caused the death of hundreds for the name of truth.

The Dark Powers had been observing Ludovigo for some time, but the final event that caused them to embrace the Grand Inquisitor was when he ordered the death of a teenage girl simply for being found kissing a boy in the woods. A secret love of this type was forbidden. That night, as he lay down to sleep, the mists rolled into his bedroom. And they had a domain perfectly suited to his abilities.

Current Sketch

Secrets are a difficult thing to keep in Sithicus. Upon arriving in his new domain, he gathered his new children and set up question stations in all the towns. The Seekers have the right to enter any home at any time, and stop anyone they choose. Mages are forbidden, and will be questioned. (Tortured and killed.) The people love the Seekers, and see them as protection from impurity and evil. It is one of the changes the Dark Powers have made to make Sithicus more suited to its new master.

Nedragaard Keep is no longer. When the Dark Powers brought Ludovigo into their clutches, the keep was changed to fit its new master. It is now a tall, white walled structure called The Shining Tower, which constantly patrolled by the Seekers. The Tower is the home of the domains lord, as well as the main garrison for the Seekers, and their courtroom, prison, and questioning chambers.

While almost everyone in the domain see the Seekers and their Grand Inquisitor as their saviors and protectors, not all share their feelings. For some reason known only to the dark powers, a number of people were not effected by the change that made the majority of the domain love Ludovigo. They constantly try to undermine his authority and inform the Sithicans of the horrible things he does to his people. They are a constant thorn in Ludovigos side, and more than anything else, he wants them captured and questioned.

The Seekers of Truth are hierarchical group with the following hierarchy of leadership. The number in parentheses are the number of people at this post at any given time.
Grand Inquisitor (1) - Ludovigo
High Inquisitor (1) typically a 9th level cleric
Lord Inquisitor (2) typically 6th level clerics
Seeker Captain (8) typically 5th level fighters
Seeker (hundreds) typically 1st or 2nd level fighters

Closing the Borders

When the Grand Inquisitor wishes the borders closed, the blinding light of truth shines on any who try to cross, Confusing them (no save, and beings normally immune to Confuse spells are not immune in this instance.) When they find themselves coherent, the PCs find themselves still in Sithicus, miles from the border.

Combat

The people of Sithicus love him. They automatically tell Ludovigo the truth. If Ludovigo asks the PCs a question, the PCs must make a saving throw vs. magic at 2 or tell him the truth. Even if they save, he can still detect lies at will. There is no hiding the truth from the Grand Inquisitor. Ludovigo is immune to any kind of lie detection or mind reading magics.

The Grand Inquisitor engages in combat only when pressed. He prefers to send the lower Seekers into battle, if it becomes necessary to detain someone. If forced, he uses his rather formidable arsenal of spells. He will never be caught alone outside of the Tower, and is accompanied by at least six Seekers.
