Mordent does not seem a very hostile domain. It has a quiet countryside, sometimes even perceived as 'dull'. This is far from the truth.
While Mordentshire and the small vollages along the road to Valachan and Richemulot are peaceful and do not harbor monsters, there are several areas in the domain that are quite dangerous.
Gryphon Hill is ome such area. The locals avoid this place, which teems with incorporeal undead and, at times, ghouls and other undead monstrosities.
The south of the domain is not much inhabited, and with a reason. The woods are inhavited by werebeasts, while the moors and fens in this area are the terrain of a strange folk, known as Moormen. While the latter are not much more than fiction to the casual wanderer, it cannot be denied that quite some unwary tarvelers have disspeared in these areas.
Finally, from the sea comes a menace in the form of reavers and sahuagin, who occasionally dare to prey on the villages that face the Sea of sorrows.

Everyone in Mordentshire knows that lord Godefroy, a powerful ghost, haunts Gryphon Manor. Luckily, he doesn't leave his house.
Best known in the sea-faring town are the Weathermay family, who owns most of the land. In-law Daniel Foxgrove is the town's major, and his daughters, Gennifer and Laurie Weathermay-Foxgrove, tend the store of the famous (and currently missing) Rudolph van Richten. They are assisted in this by Gomez Meijer, the owner of the Mordentshire Printshop, and, not so coincidentally, a former love interest of Laurie.
Outside Mordentshire, known people include the Crawford family, who live on their own estate in the east of the domain.
