Before he died, Nivert Breesk was a nervous, balding man with pinez glasses and a bent, cadaverously thin, body. Now, all that remains of his form is a dark wispy outline of a human torso, its legs tapering away into black smoky tendrils. Pinpoints of red light show in the place of his eyes.
Breesk speech sounds like a dry whisper. He speaks only Darkonese, though he seems to be capable of reading quite a number of ancient languages.
There is not much to the history of Breesk before he died in the cataclysm of Il Aluk. He was unimpressive, a clerk who wasted most of his life in the university of Il Aluk’s administration offices. The high time of his life was working for the Cartographic Society, for whom he maintained the archive. In all those years of caring for the records, he came to think of the papers as his, and he cared for it as if it was the family he never had.
When Breesk died, crushed under an avalanche of stone as the university walls collapsed, a small part of his essence tied itself to the university records. He rose as a wraith, cursed to haunt the records and guard their contents.
Breesk’s devotion to his work was so strong that he could even shrug off the influence of Death, though the undead forces of this entity forced him to withdraw deep in the university’s basement, where he now wanders the halls.
Breesk still guards the society’s older archives, though now he sees them as his own. He wanders the halls aimlessly, scaring away everything that enters the halls. He has managed, using a limited form of telekinesis, to barricade the doors into the basement. Occasionally, Death’s minions find an entrance. Most of them do not stay long after they have been witness to Breesks attacks (see below).
For some reason, Death himself cannot enter the building. Breesk has not found out why this is so, but he is content to be left alone.
Over the years, Breesk has become more and more reluctant to part with his treasures. He does not trust anyone any more. Even Liederick, who is capable of contacting him through the use of his psionic powers, has become more of an enemy to his collection than a friend to share his fortune with.
Breesk should be acted as extremely paranoid. He is not interested in anything else but his archive. He is generally quite peaceful, but if he ever suspects people come for his ‘treasure’, he enters a berserk rage and will attack them at once until either he or the ‘thieves’ are destroyed.
Breesk has never had the opportunity to attack any living creatures, instead focusing most of his rage on the undead that enter the building. Unlike other wraiths, Breesk does not draw energy levels. Instead, he can cause wounds by raking his victims with his hands (1d8 hp per attack). The loss of hitpoints is permanent, and affects both undead and the living. Only a restoration, limited wish or wish can restore hitpoints claimed by Breesk.
In addition, Breesk has a limited form of telekinesis, which only affects the university building. By concentrating for one round, Breesk can make corridors collapse if he wishes. He also has the power to move his archive around, often using it to transport the records to safer havens. He can not touch them - something that drives him mad, but his telekinesis power has no limit in the amount of weight or mass that he can move.
