On Gothic Earth, the witch trials of Salem, Massachusetts that resulted in the execution of several innocents was no accident. Rather, it came from the manipulation of a fiend of unknown nature called Zemlak the Destroyer. Zemalak had come into conflict with a qabal known as the Circle. Zemlak discovered the identities of the Circle's members and made them pariahs in the eyes of the Salem authorities. As the trials and executions commenced, the people of Salem remained unaware of how they were unwittingly serving an ancient evil.[1]

The events that caused the town of Stonewall, Massachusetts to form into an island of terror happened during, or perhaps even preceded, the Salem Witch Trials and may have even fanned the flame of hatred.[2]
