Radaga

Radaga was the former ruler of the domain of Daglan, for a brief time at least. She was a descendant of Daglan Daegon and was soon supplanted as darklord of Daglan by her ancestor. She originally laired in the Catacombs of Kartakass, but was slain there by adventurers and rose as a wight, becoming darklord of Daglan until she was destroyed again by the same adventurers.[1]

One of Radaga's lasting legacies was the creation of the pyroskeleton.[2]Radaga is also thought to have created the goblyn fog.[3]

Background

Although always vain, Radaga was not always the monster she later turned out to be. Raise as a orphan ignorant of her dark heritage, Radaga venerated a neutral deity rather than the Undead. Bestowed with great beauty and attractiveness, Radaga wanted still more, enough to make legions of men fanatically loyal to her. Her dark desire eventually attracted the attentions of the Dark Powers, who whisked her away into the Mists.[4]

Radaga's wishes became true, though in a fashion twisted by the Dark Powers. She could have great beauty, though only at the cost of murdering beautiful women to do so.[4] (The Stone of Death in the Catacombs of Kartakass allowed her to keep the beauty of women sacrificed to the slab.)[5] Moreover, Radaga could gain vast control of men, though reanimated as the undead. Moreover, Radaga was delivered the Crown of Souls, which she used to transform many people into twisted goblyns in her service. Radaga assembled a personal army combined of undead and goblyns. However, in committing such evil, Radaga sealed her fate, dooming herself to rise up again as a wight upon the loss of her life. In addition, she would become the darklord of a new Ravenloft domain, Daglan.[4]

In 736 BC, she was felled[6] by adventurers manipulated into finding the Crown of Souls by Dr. Dominiani and Akriel.[7] However, death was not the end as she rose as one of the wretched undead. She took the remains of her army and fled Kartakass into the Mists, whereupon she was granted the (albeit short-lived) mantle of Daglan's darklord.[6] Adventurers bearing the Crown of Souls again confronted the undead Radaga, looking to destroy her along with the Crown. Her body life-force passed to rebirth Daglan Daegon, but he was subsequently destroyed as well.[8] With its true master's death, the domain of Daglan ceased to be.[6]
