The domain of Miseria is an Island of Terror plagued by frequent hauntings and incorporeal undead. Ruins and ghost towns seem to pop up in and out of existence on the southern side of the domain, whereas the living denizens of this domain are more concentrated on the northern side. They live in independent towns and villages; there is no central government to this domain. The largest community is Notre-Dame-Des-Recifs, a port for the sea on the norther edge of the domain.[2]

Wildlife is abundant, and there is plenty of soft metals to be harvested in the mines. However, this area suffers from a lack of hard metals and precious metals, making life much harder for the people of Miseria with tools not as common as in many other domains. Together with the overly abundant predatory animals and the presence of evil spirits, life is very hard and often anguishing for the people of Miseria.[2]

Religious matters are a tricky thing in Miseria. Gods are thought to have made the world and then forsaken it, because it is filled with such anguish. The memory of most of the immortals venerated on the home world Miseria came from have been lost, save for its two churches mentioned above. These immortals were not gods but rather mere mortal beings who were powerful but more important diligent and dedicated enough to their causes to achieve eternal life. The Cult of Hecate is the sole exception to a lack of god worship in the domain.[5]
