Mayonaka

Mayonaka is a Chiang-shi Vampire, originally hailing from the outlander land of Kara-Tur. Mayonaka is a highly nomadic wanderer that has been to different lands throughout the Core, though he currently resides in Rokushima Táiyoo. His disillussionment with his undead existence leads him to search for a combatant capable of ending his existence once and for all. If he cannot find a warrior to challenge on the nights he wanders, he will handily find another person to kill such that he creates a stable point of rest near their site of their demise.

Background

Mayonka was born into a family of elite samurai, his mother, father, and two elder sisters all known for their skill in the blade. Wishing to become even greater than his family and forebears, Mayonaka took up studying the ways of the sword.

After Mayonaka's sisters disappeared while exploring a supposedly haunted island, Mayonka ventured forth to find them. He found and freed them, though before they could escape they encountered their captor and torturer, a horrible chiang-shi vampire. In the ensuing conflict, Mayonaka fell into a dark crevasse. His sisters managed to fend off the vampire but, believing Mayonaka had perished, fled the island. After Mayonaka regained consciousness, he found himself in conflict with the vampire once again. The conflict ended with the vampire's destruction. However, Mayonaka also perished from his wounds, to arise as one of the undead.

Over the long trip home, Mayonaka's mind began to unravel. He suspected his sisters of deliberate abandonment or even outright betrayal and conspiracy with the vampire. His rage and vampiric hunger drove him to wipe out and feast upon a sect of monks that had offered him shelter for a night. The following night, Mayonaka set out for the fortress where his family resided, killing and feeding upon several more people along the way as the last vestiges of humanity began to rot away.

After reaching the fortress, Mayonka began a sweep of the premises, wiping out everyone room by room, until reaching his family's quarters. There he cut down his welcoming father in cold blood before his sisters recognized him as a monster and attacked. He slew the both of them before fighting his mother in combat. With her death the last of Mayonaka's humanity also died. Yet after the battle Mayonaka felt revulsion at the scene, dissatisfied with the lack of challenge his family presented. He vowed to search the for worthy opponents and thus make the most of his existence until he could receive a proper death. As he left the castle, the Mists rose up and brought him to the Demiplane of Dread.

His search has brought him all over the Core, facing all manner of dangerous creatures from Kartakan werewolves to Bluetspurean mind flayers and Arak "drow". His continued victories and survival have led him to despair that a proper death will never come.

Following the Grand Conjunction and formation of Rokushima Táiyoo, Mayonaka migrated to that land and made it his home.

Signature Possessions

Mayonaka carries Tasogare, an ancestral katana made of silver and enchanted with magic. He uses this in combat as opposed to his natural weapons.
