Lekar is a large city located within and the capital of Falkovnia. As such the oppressive influence of the Falkovnian Army is constantly felt through frequent and paranoid patrols to root out vampires, rebels, spies, Dark Men, and other potential disturbers of the status quo. These patrols in and of themselves great sources of fear to the Falkovnians, for they ensure at any one time a fourth of the city goes uninhabited if not razed or in ruins. In addition, the site of impaled victims (criminal or otherwise) is not uncommon in the city square.[1]

Layout

Lekar sits upon the Vuchar River south of Lake Falk and north of Lake Adler. The River Quarter is located upon the Vuchar's western shore. The Arch of Talons connects the River Quarter to the rest of the city via Bralgaoljanglangzeit Bridge and the Harbor Gate at the bridge's far end. The West Timori Road travels from here through the city and north through the General's Quarter and out of the Bastion of Iron onto Morfenzi. Holding the Great Colosseum of Lekar and Lekar's markets, the Laborers' Quarter is positioned south of the General's Quarter. Lekar's slums is located still south of the Laborer's Quarter. It is here where most of the city's citizens live. The Gate of Justice is the slums' exit to outside the city.[2]

Forces of Chaos

Despite the lingering presence of the Talons and their subordinates, the underbelly of Lekar conceals numerous menaces to the law with the city. Although the persistent rumors of vampires tend to be validated much less often than spoken, other inhuman elements exist within the city that inspire such rumors.[3] Created by the dread experiments of Falkfuhrer Doktor Vjorn Horstman[4], the broken ones of the Dark Men lurking in the sewers have been repeatedly put down by the Talons only to later resurface again. More covertly, clutches of vampyres lurk in the slums of Lekar prey on the disadvantaged in the Feeding Houses. Ironically, one of their number, Vladimir Ludzig, owns much of said slums with the go-ahead of the military.[5]

On a more human level, the Shadow Insurrection maintains a presence here. In addition, the Last Mistress leads a thieves' guild of the undead.[6].

Lekar is featured up close in the 2nd Edition module Death Unchained. In that module, the Ebon Fold are gathering souls from Falkovnian citizens via murder for the Grim Harvest. Horstmann and the Dark Men appear in Children of the Night: Werebeasts. A conflict between Jander Sunstar and the vampyres of Lekar are detailed in a brief module included in Children of the Night: Vampires.
