Kislova, a confederation of allied provinces collectively under the rule of Baron Janosk Obour, erupted in civil war when the provinces of Deneri and Kapem seceded and claimed the gold-rich Tygelt with them. Baron Janosk Obould gained a new reputation for ruthlessness as he waged a particularly bloody war to retake Tygelt and the seceded provinces. His rule became brutal and tyrannical, and he called for the mass executions of the rebel leaders. At the same time, he intermarried many of Kislova's nobles to that of the rebel provinces, linking them through marriage. Baron Janosk married himself Lady Lorena of Deneri. Despite Baron Janosk's victory and intermarriage, wide social unrest ensued, as the increase of taxes upon Kislova put heavy financial strain upon its people. Outlaws and rebels such as Dark continued to menace the lands of Kislova.[1]

In order to placate unrest and pay for the war, Baron Janosk led the Invasion of Sundell, a nearby wealthy barony. Previously neutral in the civil war of nearby Kislova, Sundell became forewarned of the invasion thanks to Dark, a Kislovan rebel that made it over the border thanks to the help of Chardin. The troops of Sundell, led by Baron Peto Casse, set a trap for the invading Kislovan army, driving them off. Baron Peto led his troops over the border and conquered Kislova, overtaking Nimbus Castle. Baron Janosk negotiated for the safety of his allies and the Obour Family in return for accepting execution.[2]
