The First Schism was a time of conflict in the Church of Ezra that began in 698 BC. In that year, Camille Dilisnya poisoned much of the Dilisnya Family, include Yakov Dilisnya, at the Dinner of Death. Blame upon her for the murder of their leader spreads far and wide among Ezra's faithful. Borca's streets erupt in open violence. Under advice, Camille quells the riots by building a monument to Yakov on church grounds and demonstrating great acts of (apparent) mourning.[1]

Although a mass uprising had been avoided, the construction of Statue of Yakov Dilisnya brought with it some new problems for the Church of Ezra. Although the dominant faction within the church believed it necessary to accept a settlement from Camille, a sizable number saw this appeasement as little more that a bribery, not to mention the offense of constructing a statue of a mortal upon Ezra's sacred ground. In 699 BC, the religious dissident left for Mordent led by Felix Wachter, their leader. There they founded their own sect of the religious, the Mordentish Sect[1](also known as the Pure Hearts. The Pure Hearts and the Home Faith would not reestablish relations until the passage of a decade.[1]

In order to prevent the strife of the First Schism from repeating, high-ranking church officials created the Rite of Revelation.[2]
