The lost families are formerly landed gentry of Mordent. Some of them are vanished completely, while others have scattered heirs but are no longer landowners for one reason or another.

Discrepancies

The timeline and other details of the lost families pose problems as written, chiefly with regard to the order in which they vanished. The Mournesworths, for example, are said to be the last of the families to vanish, just before the Mists arrived in Mordent in 579 BC. This would appear to contradict the Blackburn-Bruce family story, which says they fled blame for the Apparatus incident, which also occurred just before the Mists arrived. Likewise, it's doubtful the Scottmatters could not have offended a shadow fey before Arak became a domain, let alone Mordent. The Gauldamons are recorded as destroyed in 621 BC, well after theMists had taken Mordent. Finally, the disappearance of the Wescotes is recorded in the Howls in the Night module, which obviously took place in 743 BC, well after Mordent became a domain.

Other discrepancies exist with the stated years as well, such as the murder of the Halloways attracting a mist ferryman in 502 BC, despite such creatures not existing outside the Land of Mists.
