The Kulchevich family was the Vistani family Magda Kulchevich originated from before founding the mixed bloodline Vistani group of the Wanderers. Consequently, Magda's daughter Inza is also of the same bloodline. The Kulcheviches were of the Vatraska Tribe of the Kaldresh Tasque.^[1]

The Kulcheviches traced their ancestry to the legendary Vistani hero Kulchek the Wanderer, whose powerful magic cudgel Gard was passed down through the ages from generation to generation of his descendants. He also wielded the magical dagger Novgor and was accompanied by a faithful hound named Sabak.

As of 720 BC, the Kulcheviches were operating out of Barovia at the time that the death knight Lord Soth arrived in the land. Lord Soth visited the camp of the Kulcheviches seeking knowledge about Count Strahd. Acting as a spy for Strahd, Madame Girani, the Kulchevich raunie, met with Soth. There was a brief exchange of information, but the parties offended each other. As hostilities ensued, Soth set Madame Girani's "pet" loose upon her and then set her vardo ablaze. Her curse fell upon Soth as she died. Soth killed a number of her relatives in the ensuing chaos. Having been earlier entranced by Magda's storytelling dance, Soth took Magda prisoner and forced her to act as his guide to Barovia^[2].

The fallout with Soth would ultimately bring doom upon the Kulcheviches save for Magda. In an effort to appease Soth, Strahd declared that the lives of the rest of the Kulcheviches were forfeit. At Soth's insistence for Magda for continued service as his guide, Magda's life was spared. However, she would meet her demise many decades later in Sithicus in an ambush orchestrated by her own daughter Inza. Consequently, Inza is the last known survivor of the Kulchevich bloodline.
