Category:Dread Familiar
Also known as a pseudo-familiar, a Dread Familiar is the result of spellcaster calling a familiar within the Demiplane of Dread. (Familiars brought from Outlander Worlds are not Dread Familiars). A Dread Familiar acts like a normal familiar, except that its moral alignment is always evil, and it seeks to fulfill its masters desires by any means necessary.
In 2nd edition, these creatures were called Pseudo-familiars, and had a few extra abilities, chiefly damage resistance and vampiric healing. In 3rd edition, they became Dread Familiars and lost those abilities (though familiars in general are more powerful in 3rd edition.) Also in 3rd edition, the concept was generalized into Dread Companions.
