Artworks are created by artists. They are incarnations of discernment and of reflection that give expression to existence.

When artworks are discrete things that are relatively difficult to copy, like paintings and sculptures, they command significant prices and are bought and sold in galleries. Such works of art are collected privately. They are also collected publicly for display in art museums. They are commodities and an extravagance of the wealthy.

When artworks are discrete things that are relatively easy to copy, like novels and sonnets, they may be produced on a large-scale and may be affordable to a very wide audience. Such works of art are routinely found in private and publicly libraries. They are commodities and an extravagance only for the lower class.

When artworks are not discrete things but rather performances, like concerts, operas, orrations, plays, and readings, the right of attendance is bought and sold. Such works of art are often given in specially adapted venues. Access to these venues is a commodity and often is an extravagance of the wealthy.
