Andre de Sang

Andre de Sang is a Wererat and the captain of the Sea Gypsy. Both a highly skilled sailor and a victim of pirates at an early age, Andre thirsted to avenge his lost parents and crew. He had been left adrift, forced to eat human flesh, and almost eaten alive by rats. To find these hated pirates he became not only a smuggler but a pirate himself. He eventually caught up with his transgressors and fed them to the rats as he had almost fed. With this act, his ship was swallowed by the Mists, and Andre was cursed with lycanthropy.

Andre now sails the Sea of Sorrows with his newly infected crew. Neither he nor his crew can dictate when their transfigurations occur. Rather, it is triggered whenever they leave the Sea Gypsy, with Andre du Sang transformed into the hybrid man-rat and his crew transforming into dire rats. While on deck of his ship, Andre remains in human form, and the crew are normally stuck in their hybrid forms. Despite this handicap, Andre has adapted tactics of guile and manipulation that can take place from his own ship, such as pretending to be the victims of pirates.

Should he be slain and/or his ship destroyed, Andre may later come back as the captain of a spectral ghost ship overflowing with ghostly rats. In this event, Andre will be hellbent on achieving revenge against his killers .
