Alfonso Tyves is a living contradiction on Gothic Earth Not only is he a very old vampire but also a feral vampire. Yet he is also a very diligent arcane researcher and medical researcher. Tyves was not always evil. Rather, his road to darkness started with but some overexuberance to save his friend and mentor Portia. Frustrated with how little he could do for the healing of the poor, Tyves had become disgusted with the limitations of the healing sciences in the 14th century in which he lived. Portia had introduced him to the magical arts and got him into the qabal known as the Phoenix.[1]

Because of her previous assistance, it was natural for Tves and the other members of th Phoenix to turn towards extraordinary methods in researching a cure to vampirism when Portia was bitten by a nosferatu. They managed to develop a cure they believed would work. However, The Red Death corrupted it and made it worse than the malady it supposed to cure. Too driven to find a safe cure for Portia, Tvyes unexpectedly and irrationally tried it on himself first. After he consumed it, he became a feral vampire and flew into a horrible rage that killed the rest of his friends and colleagues there, including Portia. Since that day, Tves' dual nature as a well-intentioned occultist and researcher has clashed with his other nature as a horrible and callous thing of the night. Tyves has ultimately given himself over to fighting the forces of darkness, regardless of the harm it causes. He is callous and without feeling, except for perhaps some dim hint of those who act selflessly.Tyves has little else beyond fueling his obsession for knowledge, whether it be interrogations or thievery.[2]

Alfonso Tyves was created by Charles Phipps for the Book of Sorrows.
