"Ambrose"

A long time before the events of the present day Spectre of the Black Rose (which was 752 BC as assigned by Domains of Dread[1]), Ambrose, a shopkeeper and merchant who lived in Veidrava Village, was possessed by a salt shadow. However, Ambrose's will held out for many years against the salt shadow.[2] However, a violent encounter with a pair of abusive Politskara, Markel and his elf associate ended with Ambrose's killing of both politskae, the flight of Helain, and Ambrose noticeably changed.[3]

Ambrose's friends noticed the above encounter had left him changed. He was in seemingly better health, but now he was more callous and cruel. Ogier noticed something was wrong, but Kern dismissed it as mere grieving.[4] Later, it became evident that the salt shadow had taken over, and it lured Ogier and Kern into a trap at the Black Chapel. There, salt shadows ambushed and possessed both men[5], effectively transforming them into the minions of Azrael Dak.

By the time Ganelon came to stop Azrael and his ritual, Ambrose's old personality was completely subsumed by the salt shadow, addressing the real Ambrose as a completely different entity. Along with the possessed Ogier and Kern, Ambrose attempted to subdue Ganelon[6]. Ultimately, all three of Ganelon's friends met their doom when Ganelon activated the crystal orb given to him by Malocchio Aderre. However, in his last moments, the kindly Ambrose took over once again to give a warm smile and compliment to Ganelon.[7].
