Militia House, Watch Captain Rask's office, about two hours before noon-

Rask looks up from a sheaf of parchment sheets on his desk, watching you all as you file into the office. He indicates a bench and three chairs arranged along the wall.

''Please, be seated.''

As soon as even the first of you sits, the gaunt faced captain resumes speaking:

''May I commend you again on your excellent work with the beheading murders? It's very impressive that you caught the killer by infiltrating that brothel. Well, no need for you to worry about him now- we got a signed confession from him before his accident. The stairs around here can be so slippery after the rain...positively hazardous...Perhaps I ought to have handrails installed?''

Rask rubs his eyes.
''Ahhh...now, then. Yes, the new mission.
In the week before the great fire and the attack, a routine cargo inspection turned up hidden arms aboard a flatboat working the marshes. The crew cracked under interrogation and, while the couldn't give use much, admitted to the existence of a larger smuggling ring. It seems, if these men were telling the truth, that several boatloads of weapons have already entered the city by clandestine means. Naturally enough, there's serious concern about just whom is getting these weapons and what they plan on doing with them. Our regular men haven't gotten anywhere with the investigation, so I've decided to hand it over to you. ''

Rask hands Archedius a piece of parchment.

''Here's everything we have. It isn't much, but I'm sure your team can ferret out the villains. ''

"Sir, thank you for the assignment, Watch-Captain. Water on stairs can definately be slippery...as can those with blood."

He lets a wicked smile cross his face, pretending as though he agrees with Rask's excuse.

"The smugglers will be investigated, Sir."

Archedius clacks his heels together, bows and leaves the room, letting any others present to ask the questions. As he does he thinks dark thoughts and feels his entrails roil in response.

Placing a hand on his stomach, he waits until he's outside in an alley by himself to throw up. Nothing comes up. Perplexed, he returns to the Old Shell to talk to anyone in the group that didn't attend the meeting.

Militia House

Watch-Captain Rask stands to escort the last of the team out of the room. He then closes his office door as you all leave. An attentive listener will hear him lock the door from the inside.

several minutes later, in the street

Jamethon walks over to Archedius and asks-

''Are you alright? You look terrible.''

This is the first thing Moorkroft has said to anyone since breakfast. He sat through the briefing as silent as a stone.

Threan is curious as to why the captain would lock his door, so he listens(1) at it for a few minutes for any thing interesting . He also hides(2) if any body comes around . He does this after every body else leaves .

1=Listen check 32
2=Hide check 31 if needed .

Inovidil says nothing during the meeting. She knows very well that someone has told Rask they should stop investigate the deaths and the Captain had to obey. Inovidil doesn't want to make him suspect that they haven't drop their mission as he told them.

Once out of Militia House she says:

"I'll go to meet Threen's brother and find out if he learnt anything else about the bounties and ask him if he wants to help us. I'll see you all later."

With that she heads to the shop and when sees that the gnome is alone and there are no other clients she greets him and says with a smile:

"You must be Glim, Threen's brother. I'm Inovidil, one of your brother's new companions, nice to meet you. Threen told me that you are a wizard. I'm one too and is always a pleasure meet someone and have a nice chat about spells and magic."

Rardi sits through the meeting ans says not a word. Thass a bunch o malarkey, if'n ye ask me. Glad we gonna still investugate the murderer. It's insane ta think that man was the resonsible. 'E ain;t even strong enough ta have cut them heads off.

Once the meeting is over she heads out to purchase her clothing from a dwarvish shop. After that she looks for the wetblack. If she finds some she purchases it, if not she returns to the Inn. Returning to the Inn, she looks for any of the party in the common room. If not, she heads for Archedius' room. She knocks on his door. "Tis me, Rardi, ye ole coot."

Blaise says nothing during the briefing. As they leave, he says quietly, "Smugglers ... well, I did some successful snooping around months ago with Ino, Shana, and... Jarg and we stopped a group of smugglers then, although they were trafficking in people. Like I said earlier, I can follow up on this so that some of you can do ... that other thing. Who's with me?"

He looks on, concerned, as Rardi inquires about Archedius' health. He then asks, "Archedius, may I see the information that you got?"[/i]

Rardi enters, and finds a spot to sit. "So what ye be thinkin? That was way too convenient. Tha man they say commited the crime ain't the one. Blaise an I spoke to 'im. He kiinna be the one who cut the ehads off. 'E's not strong enough. An from our conversation with him, I doubt he is the one. 'E's afraid of Delthrin like the plague."

Turning from Blaise then to Jamethon. "An elf tried ta kill ye? But why? Ye rub 'im tha wrong way, laddie?"

Alain, who has been reading pretty adamantly since just before most everyone else headed off to the meeting with rask, looks up from the diary in his hands. He can't help but feel sadness wash over him as he reflects on the contents of the diary.
He marks his page and gets up from the bed in his inn room and then, taking the book with him, head downstairs for a glass of wine.
Seeing the other who have arrived, he approaches the group. Seeing the fresh scalps displayed proudly on the barbarians belt, Alain quickly retrieves a handkerchief from his coat and hold it tightly around his mouth and nose and manages to stifle his sudden nausea somewhat. No matter how many undead atrocities or other horrible monsters and beasts Alain had come across in his travels, the barbarian was the worst.
Carefully distancing himself from the large brute, Alain circles his way around to the other side of the gathering. Taking a moment to compose himself, he stuffs his handkerchief back into his coat pocket. He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath before addressing the group, opening his eyes before he speaks.
"So, I assume the meeting with that miserable wretch of a watch captain went well?"?
