Hello Forum members,

I have all the old books and most 3rd ed. material. I am getting back to the game and while thinking about it I oddly remembered an illustration of a ranger/warrior type going up a hill with some dogs (pointing breed). I have checked all my books and I can't find this particular illustration. I really need to find it: I have requested a painter a similar work and I am desperate to show him my original source of inspiration. Sorry if this makes no sense but maybe you will know what I am talking about. B&W illustration, guy going up a hill with dogs, facing the illustrator, 99% sure it is a Ravenloft book.

Well, it's not in Darklords, Islands of Terror or the Book of Crypts....

B&W art certainly sounds right, but the content doesn't seem all that "Ravenlofty", IMO.

I flipped through Van Richten's Monster HUnter Compendium Vol. 2 & 3 but didn't see anything like it. Since you said you own the 3rd ed. and older books, can you narrow down what kind of art style it was done in? Do you know if it was the more realistic (and pretty distinct) 2e art, or the more stylized 3e pictures done by Talon Dunning? Your description makes me think 2e (which is why I checked the Compendiums).

If you have most of the books, could you tell us which ones are missing?

The campaign setting (old box) and new one - AD&D. Darklords, 2 children of night

Old adventures such as black roses, goblyins, evil eye, forlorn, from the shadows, shadow rift, thoughts of darkness

Monstrous compendium, 3 Van Ritchen AD&D era, masque and transylvania

3rd ed.

heroes of light, denizens of dread, old core rules, 3.5 phb, dmg, gazetteer 1-4

I am gonna see what is closest in terms of artist name and I will post here soon. I thought it could also be in FR, but I only owned the main boxed set, menzo and myth drannor. Haven't checked it but I am sure it is not there either.

Pretty sure I remember a picture like that, but not with exactly pointers.
The one I recall had a couple of hunting dogs with big jowls, sorta slobbery. They almost seemed to come off as rabid to me.

Definitely patterned after something New England-ish so I wouldn't be surprised at all if it is Weathermay.

Nikolas mentioned hunting, so I thought it might be the Hunt Club. So I checked Champions of Darkness. No luck. The Hunt Club pic is some guys on horseback running down a woman. Checked the whole book to be sure, though. nothing.

Checked the obvious one -- Howls in the Night. Sadly nothing

Huh. Seems like we have lists of everything else from the old Ravenloft products, but no list of the artwork. Maybe that's something to consider putting together?

Wouldn't be so bad on some of the 2E stuff.
The interior art was usually limited to just one or two artists for the books, unfortunately very little was marked in the individual interior b/w's if there *was* more than one.

The RL d20 material is trickier because, while most artists marked their work (let's face it -- it was often much better quality than standard 2E interior b/w's), many of the books had upwards of 4-5 internal artists.

I checked under George Weathermay in the Kargatane Catalogue and got this entry:

Well, the VRA one isn't the right one. Any of you collectors have the other two?

The Black Box card shows him in a parlor setting, so that's not the right one either.

That one sounds like the illustration of the Wild Hunt in Castles Forlorn, but Seisz said that had already been checked out. I looked at Forbidden Lore and the Tarokka deck before work this morning, but didn't see what they are looking for either.

EDIT: I also checked 'Dark of the Moon' and 'Neither Man nor Beast', no luck yet.

Hi, it is not page 48 on Forlorn, although that's a superb "dogs in Ravenloft" illustration.
